What is a chimney repair estimate

A Closer Look at Your Chimney's Exterior Condition

A chimney repair estimate focuses on the visible exterior components of your chimney. Our technician evaluates areas that may require repair, such as masonry, mortar joints, the chimney crown, cap, flashing, and visible signs of water damage.

The purpose of this appointment is to identify exterior repair needs and provide you with recommendations and pricing for the work.

Looking for an Internal Chimney Evaluation?

A chimney repair estimate is not the same as a chimney inspection. If you need the inside of your chimney evaluated, our chimney inspections include ChimScan® camera technology to examine the flue and other internal components.

“This past winter the outside of our chimney took a beating — bricks had split, mortar was cracking/falling out, and the flashing was lifting… We scheduled a review and a no cost estimate. Dave (the owner) and a member of his crew came out and performed an extensive inspection top to bottom, taking pictures and testing for any potential leaks and areas of weakness.”

FAQ

Common Questions, Answered.

How Do I Know If I Need a Chimney Repair Estimate or an Inspection/ChimScan?

Chimney Repair Estimate – This is for an external evaluation of your chimney. If you notice damaged flashing, loose bricks, cracks in the mortar, water leaks, or missing chimney caps, an estimate helps determine repair costs for visible exterior issues. Chimney Inspection (ChimScan) – This is a detailed internal and external inspection using a camera to check for hidden problems like cracked flue liners, blockages, or creosote buildup inside the chimney. It’s recommended if you're experiencing smoke issues, odors, excessive creosote, or after a chimney fire.

Are chimney repair estimates free?

Yes. Your first chimney repair estimate is free and no-obligation. During our busy season (October through December), each additional chimney is $125.

How long does it take to receive a chimney repair estimate?

The time to receive a repair estimate can vary. In many cases, technicians can provide a basic estimate after discussing the job, but for a more accurate quote, they may need to perform a site inspection. This could take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the scope of the work.

Do I need to be home for a chimney repair estimate?

For a chimney repair estimate, it is important that the homeowner or decision-maker be present during the appointment. This ensures we can address any questions or specific concerns directly and provide an accurate assessment.

What does a chimney repair estimate include?

A chimney repair estimate covers the exterior of your chimney only. A technician evaluates the visible masonry, mortar joints, crown, cap and flashing, and checks for signs of water damage. You'll receive repair recommendations along with a breakdown of repair costs. Interior issues — like the flue liner, creosote buildup or blockages — are not part of an estimate. Those are evaluated during a chimney inspection with ChimScan® and sweep.

What should I look for in a chimney contractor?

Look for a licensed, insured, certified and experienced chimney contractor. You can also ask for references, check online reviews, and make sure they are familiar with industry standards and local codes. A good contractor should offer a detailed, transparent estimate and be willing to answer your questions.
